What each formulation is, what goes into it and how tradition uses it.
If you have been prescribed Swarna Vasant Malti Ras, someone will almost certainly ask you, “Isn’t that the same as Vasant Kusumakar?” It is not. The two share a word, both contain gold, and both are classical Rasa Aushadhis, but Ayurvedic tradition uses them for quite different purposes.

What each formulation is
Swarna Vasant Malti Ras
Also called Suvarna Vasant Malti or, in Dabur’s spelling, Basant Malti, this is a classical formula described in Bhaishajya Ratnavali and Yoga Ratnakara. The “Swarna” (gold) in the name signals that this version contains Swarna Bhasma. Some versions of Vasant Malti made without gold also exist, which is why the full name matters on a prescription.
Its classical place is in Jeerna Jwara, chronic or recurring fever, and in the weakness that follows long illness. In practice it is also used to support respiratory strength and recovery.
Vasant Kusumakar Ras
Also described in Bhaishajya Ratnavali, Vasant Kusumakar Ras is a much heavier formula with a large set of metals. Its classical place is in Prameha, the Ayurvedic category of metabolic and urinary disorders, and as a Rasayana for strength, nerves, heart and healthy ageing.

Why the ingredients point to different uses
The difference becomes clearer if you look at the supporting ingredients rather than the gold:
- Vasant Malti uses black pepper and lemon juice. In Ayurveda both are sharp and stimulating to Agni, the digestive and metabolic fire. A weak Agni is central to how the classical texts describe chronic fever and slow recovery. Pepper is also traditionally associated with the respiratory system.
- Vasant Kusumakar uses sugarcane, lotus, sandalwood and turmeric juices, many of which are cooling and nourishing in Ayurvedic terms, along with a broad set of metals that the texts associate with deep, long-term rejuvenation.
So one is designed to rekindle and recover. The other is designed to nourish and sustain over a long period.

Neither replaces medical treatment. A fever that keeps coming back needs proper investigation by a doctor. Diabetes needs its prescribed medicines. Both formulas are used alongside, not instead of, that care.
Who should consult which practitioner
Both medicines should only be taken on the advice of a registered Ayurvedic practitioner. But the situations that lead people to them are different, and so are the other doctors you should involve.
If you are considering Swarna Vasant Malti Ras:
- See a medical doctor first to find out why you have recurring fever or a slow recovery. Infections such as tuberculosis, urinary infections and other conditions need diagnosis and treatment.
- Then see an Ayurvedic physician for supportive care during recovery.
If you are considering Vasant Kusumakar Ras:

Is Swarna Vasant Malti Ras stronger than Vasant Kusumakar Ras?
They are different rather than stronger or weaker. Vasant Kusumakar has more metals. Vasant Malti is lighter and aimed at fever and recovery.
Is there a Vasant Malti Ras without gold?
Yes, non-gold versions exist. If your prescription says Swarna (gold) Vasant Malti, check that Swarna Bhasma is listed on the pack.
Can I take both together?
Only if your doctor prescribes both. Taking two gold Rasa Aushadhis without supervision is not advisable.
Is Basant Malti the same as Vasant Malti?
Yes. Basant is another spelling of Vasant.
